Patna | The Voter Adhikar Yatra in Bihar is set to get a major boost later this month, with Samajwadi Party chief and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav joining the campaign in Sitamarhi on 28 August. The announcement was made by Congress general secretary K.C. Venugopal on Wednesday.
Venugopal said Akhilesh’s presence alongside Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav will add fresh energy to what the opposition is calling a people’s movement to “protect democracy and stop vote theft.”
“Shri Akhilesh Yadav-ji’s participation will strengthen our fight against electoral malpractice. Standing together, leaders of the INDIA bloc are sending a strong message of unity,” Venugopal posted on X.
The yatra, which began on 17 August from Sasaram, has already travelled through several districts, including Nalanda, where it halted on Tuesday. After a rest day on Wednesday, it will move forward from Nalanda on Thursday.
Much like Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra before the Lok Sabha elections, this march is also being carried out in a hybrid style — on foot as well as by vehicle — to reach a wider section of people. In the coming days, the yatra will make its way through Lakhisarai, Munger, Bhagalpur, Katihar, Purnea, Araria, Supaul, Madhubani, Darbhanga, Sitamarhi, East and West Champaran, Gopalganj, Siwan, Chhapra and Ara.
